Each child can choose to attend extracurricular activities at his school or at the Vilnius District Municipality's non-formal children's education school and a school supplementing formal education.
The purpose of non-formal education for children is to meet the cognitive, educational and self-expression needs of pupils and to help them become active members of society. Non-formal education for children is provided by non-formal education for children and other educational institutions, free teachers and other education providers. Education programmes complementing formal education are carried out by music, art, other arts and sports schools, Lithuanian higher education institutions, as well as by educational institutions operating in accordance with the description of the activities of the Open Access Centre for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Education approved by the Minister of Education, Science and Sport.
In order to meet the needs of students' creativity and self-expression, and to increase the availability of non-formal education services for children, the municipality implements non-formal education programmes for children, which provide students with additional choices in languages, arts, sports, healthy lifestyle, dance, technical creativity, civic, social, and ethnic education, and other subjects. This is the case of the non-formal children's education programmes funded by the State, which provides €15-20 per student per non-formal education programme. This area is supervised by Violeta Purpurovič, Senior Specialist at the Education Department.
Children and adults aged 6-15 years living in the territory of the Vilnius District Municipality or studying in general education schools located in the territory of the Vilnius District are admitted to the non-formal education schools for children in the Vilnius District and to the schools supplementing formal education (music, art and sports schools).
