On February 7, a ceremony for the 31st traditional national competition "Farm of the Year 2024" took place in Anykščiai, where winners from 35 municipalities were honored. A total of 260 farms participated in the competition, and three top positions were claimed by farmers from Vilnius District.

Three farmers and their farms from Vilnius District were also awarded: Rafal Karnecki from Lavoriškės (1st place), Andrej Zajcev from Rudamina (2nd place), and Romuald Rakalovič from Medininkai (3rd place).

Dr. Danuta Narbut, Vice Mayor of Vilnius District Municipality, who attended the event, stated that she is proud of the district's farmers and their achievements.

"Each of your achievements is not only a personal victory, but also a success for the entire Vilnius District. You, our farmers, set an example of how to work the land with love and achieve sustainable results. Congratulations once again to Rafal, Andrej and Romuald, farmers of Vilnius District. It is particularly gratifying to see young people like Rafal taking on this difficult but very meaningful path. It is a sign that a new, brave and hard-working generation of farmers is growing up in our district. Thank you for your work, which we see and appreciate every day," said Vice Mayor Dr. Danuta Narbut.

The event was also attended by Ruslan Narunec, Head of the Agricultural Department of Vilnius District Municipality Administration, Advisor Gediminas Janavičius, and Senior Specialist Birutė Polikevičienė.

Rafal Karnecki, 24, is the youngest participant in the competition. He started farming in 2019 and currently runs a 118 ha mixed farm with beef cattle. Rafal Karnecki also received an award from Prime Minister Gintaras Paluckas.

Second-place winner Andrej Zajcev has been farming since 2010, specializing in the cultivation of cereals (except rice), legumes, and oilseed plants. A. Zajcev manages about 20 hectares of land.

Third-place winner Romuald Rakalovič has been farming since 2008. His main activities include growing cereals (except rice), legumes, and oilseed plants. He manages 2 hectares of land.

The competition, organized by the Lithuanian Farmers’ Union, is open to farmers who have registered their farms in the farmers' register and actively farm in the municipalities where the Lithuanian Farmers' Union branch operates. The aim of the competition is to encourage farmers to adopt more advanced farming practices, achieve production efficiency and ecological balance, work more sustainably on their farms, and identify the best farms in each municipality.

The winning farms are those with the highest scores, as decided by the district evaluation committees. Only the three best farms in each municipality are awarded first, second and third place.
