The localities of Zujūnai eldership of Vilnius district (Šilėnai, Buivydiškės, Čekoniškės) are mentioned in historical sources in the 16th-17th centuries. The Zujūnai area is characterised by an interesting landscape, with several places of interest, which are admired and visited not only by the local population, but also tourists. There are several cultural heritage sites, such as hillforts and other archaeological monuments, the ethnographic village of Šilėnai, which has its own coat of arms, and the Buivydiškės and Mozūriškės manor houses and parks. There are also natural sites: geomorphological reserves, the Neris Regional Park, rivers and lakes.
Since the 19th century, the surroundings of Zujūnai municipality have been known as the centre of palms (verbos) making in Vilnius district. Weaving and tying verbs is an original craft of the Vilnius district, with no analogues in the world. The handmade verbs made by hard-working craftsmen are widely known and loved all over the world: in Poland, France, Germany, Italy and as far away as Japan.
In 2019, the tradition of Vilnius region's palms was added to the List of Intangible Cultural Heritage Sites – palms of the Vilnius region are among dozens of other Lithuanian cultural treasures, and from 2021, the motifs of palms further emphasise the uniqueness and recognisability of the Vilnius Region – the graphic elements of the traditional palm of the Vilnius region are now depicted in the logo of the Vilnius District.
The most popular colours of the Vilnius Region's verbs are gold, greens and reds, which is why the colours of the Zujūnai coat of arms are gold, silver, green and red. In heraldry, gold or yellow means honesty, nobility; silver or white means honesty, joy, truth, cleanliness, water; red means love, courage, bravery; green means hope, freedom, joy.
The golden shield of the coat of arms depicts three green and red verbs with silver floral elements.
The heraldry of Zujūnai was designed by artist Rolandas Rimkūnas.
