The settlement of Sužionys has been mentioned in historical sources since the 16th century. The surroundings of the municipality are surrounded by the exceptional nature – lakes, rivers and forests. There are 13 lakes in the territory of the municipality and the Pravalas Botanical Reserve, a botanically valuable place of plant communities and rare plant species along the shores of Lake Pravalas and in the marshy areas. There is also the Verdeikiai Geomorphological Reserve in the territory of Sužionys. The municipality is proud of its rich nature, and it is therefore proposed to use elements related to nature in the Sužionys coat of arms. The nature symbolism tells about the local people’s concern for preserving clean forests, pure rivers and lakes for future generations.
The symbol chosen for the coat of arms project in the common sea eagle, which lives and breeds in the vicinity of Sužionys and is listed in the Lithuanian Red Data Book. The symbolism of the eagle in heraldry means strength, sharp mind, foresight and nobility.
The author of the coat of arms standard is the artist Rolandas Rimkūnas.
