The symbol of the coat of arms of Nemėžis is a bull, which was chosen not by chance. In symbolism and cultural history, the ox is considered a symbol of patience, strength, wisdom and diligence. The coat of arms of Nemėžis relfects not only the long and significant history of this village, bul also the harmonious coexistence of several peoples in Nemėžis today: Lithuanians, Tatars, Russians and Poles. To mark the Tatar origin of Nemėžis and the active Tatar community that is active here today, the right corner of the coat of arms depicts Tatar motif – a tug (a sign of authority in ancient Turkey: a wooden stick up to 2.5m long, ending in a ball or spike decorated with downward – swinging spikes, used by Turks, Tatars and Cossacks as sign of military authority).
