The symbols chosen for the coat of arms – the silver letter “M” symbolises not only the first letter of the name of the village of Marijampolis, but also echoes the name of the monogram of the Virgin Mary. The silver lily – the motif of a white lily – is part of the heraldic composition of the Marian monastic order. The lily is a symbol of chastity, purity and light in the Christian tradition, which is embodied by the white colour of the flowers. The lily is often used to represent Christ at the Last Judgement: the white lily blossoms unfurling in the front of the face of the Judge of the World symbolise grace, favour and mercy. The lily ornament is a favourite motif in folk art and folk songs of various nations. The lily ring also symbolises the homesteads cherished by the villagers of Marijampolis, where the people of this land have lived and worked since ancient times. The motif of a black, meandering stream refers to the river called Juodė, which flows through Marijampolis.
In heraldry, silver means water, purity, honesty and loyalty. Gold means light, spiritual wealth. Blue stands for heaven, peace, wisdom and together with white, is the colour of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
The heraldic design was prepared by artist Rolandas Rimkūnas.
