Avižieniai has been famous for its orchards since the interwar period, where new varieties of apple and pear trees, new to Vilnius, were grown. There were also flower (rose) and strawberry farms and crops (oats). The predominant activities in the municipality of Avižienai were plant growing, horticulture and horse breeding.
The name of the village of Avižieniai may have been derived from the name of the crop sown – “oats”. Therefore, the symbols chosen for the symbolism of the coat of arms are two branches of oats, which, at the bottom of the coat of arms composition, leaning on each other, form the symbolism of the first letter A of the name Avižieniai.
The coat of arms was designed by artist Rolandas Rimkūnas.
